TDOTs smartphone app racks up users

More than 35,000 users have downloaded the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s SmartWay mobile app since its launch in late December, according to state officials.

The app is designed to help drivers navigate Tennessee highways by providing customized traffic information in real time. The app is free and available for download in the Apple App Store and Play Store for Android.

“It’s great that thousands of motorists are taking advantage of this free resource, and we encourage more drivers to give it a try,” said John Schroer, TDOT commissioner and former Franklin mayor. “The SmartWay App not only gives you real time traffic information that can help you avoid delays, it can be customized to provide only the information you want.”

The home screen for the TDOT SmartWay App is a map that locates your current position. The icons on the left hand side of the map allow users to customize views to show traffic speeds, incidents, cameras, road construction, road conditions, and dynamic message sign displays. The TDOT SmartWay App also has features that will notify users of traffic incidents and set their favorite TDOT cameras.
