Williamson County Democrats to choose National Delegates at convention March 10
The Williamson County Democratic Party will hold its 2012 County Convention Saturday, March 10, to begin choosing delegates to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. The county convention will begin promptly at noon at the Williamson County Democratic Party headquarters at 112 East Fowlkes Street in Franklin.
Doors will open at 11 a.m. for registration and will be closed and locked at noon. All participants must fill out a credentials form and pledge of support.
The convention is the first in a two-step process for selecting delegates to the Democratic National Convention, which will be held in September in Charlotte, N.C. At the county convention, Democrats will elect delegates to attend Congressional district conventions on March 24. From the district, national convention delegates will be elected.
"The Democratic National Convention is the perfect way for new people to get involved this year," said Peter Burr, chairperson of the Williamson County Democratic Party. "Delegates are the voice of Tennessee at the national convention, and they get to stand on the convention floor and hear from our national party leaders."
Any Democrat who wishes to become a district-level delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention also must submit a Statement of Candidacy form with the Tennessee Democratic Party by March 1. Forms are available at www.TNDP.org or by contacting the Williamson County Democratic Party at 615-790-3659.
District conventions will include representatives from every county based on 2010 Congressional district lines. Locations for the district conventions will be announced at the Williamson County convention.
All Democratic residents who are eligible voters of Williamson County are encouraged to attend. For more information on the Democratic delegate selection process, please visit www.tndp.org or call the Tennessee Democratic Party at 615-327-9779.
