Franklin unites to honor local family Holiday blood drive held in honor of Nevil family

Franklin Donor Days Blood Drive in honor of the Nevil family

Williamson County Public Library

Tuesday, December 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The American Red Cross is honoring the love and strength of a Franklin family who have suffered a traffic loss.

On Nov. 16, 2012 Katy Nevil, 38, was killed and her 12-year-old daughter Lauren was seriously injured during a trip to visit family members in Texas for the Thanksgiving holiday. Nevil's husband, Steven, and the couple's 9-year-old son, Will, were not seriously injured.

The Nevils are known and loved by many in the Williamson County community. To give friends a way to take action and help others, the American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in honor of the Nevil family on Dec. 18.

Unfortunately, tragedies like this happen all too frequently. It’s up to the generosity of blood donors across the country to ensure blood products are on the shelves at all times to make sure victims can get the best care possible in times of need.

There is no substitute for human blood. Blood is a perishable product. Red blood cells last only 42 days and platelets just five days. It must be replenished constantly.

Walk-ins are welcome or to save you time, please make an appointment by calling 800 RED CROSS or go online at: www.redcrossblood.org/make-donation and enter sponsor code: Franklin19

GIVEAWAYS: Due to the fact this blood drive falls within American Red Cross Give Something That Means Something campaign; all presenting donors will take home a free t-shirt and be entered to win a $1,000 American Express gift card. In addition, donors will receive a coupon for a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, while supplies last.

How to Donate Blood:

Call 1-800-RED CROSS or log on to redcrossblood.org for more information or to schedule a blood donation appointment. All blood types are needed to ensure the Red Cross maintains an adequate blood supply. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Donors must be in general good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old (16 with completed Parental Consent Form). New height and weight restrictions apply to donors younger than 19. Visit redcrossblood.org to learn more.
