FPD auto theft

The Franklin Police Department has dealt with numerous auto thefts in recent weeks.

A recent string of auto thefts has led to a reminder from the Franklin Police Department to remove valuables, lock car doors and take your keys with you when you exit your vehicle.

Detectives are investigating after an unlocked car with the keys left inside was stolen from an apartment complex on Gillespie Drive Monday morning. The owner of the car left it unlocked with the keys inside, according to FPD, returning a short time later to find her car missing.

The stolen vehicle was found about a mile away later that same morning. The person who stole the car is believed to have burglarized other unlocked vehicles in the area.

Police say crime prevention is a shared responsibility, and FPD is asking citizens to remove their valuables, lock their cars and take their keys with them every trip, every time.
