Detectives investigating after fake bomb closes Franklin fitness center

Franklin Police reported that a fake bomb was placed in an outdoor trash can outside the Williamson County Recreation Center on Fulton Greer Lane in Franklin on Tuesday.

Franklin detectives are investigating after someone conspicuously placed a lookalike bomb in an outdoor trash can, according to the Franklin Police Department.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon at the Williamson County Recreation Center on Fulton Greer Lane, near Mack Hatcher Memorial Parkway and Hillsboro Road, the department reported.

According to FPD, the facility was evacuated and the area locked down while a Tennessee Highway Patrol bomb squad worked with police, only to determine the device was a hoax.

Detectives are investigating several leads in the case. FPD and Crime Stoppers are offering a cash reward for information.
