Letter to the Editor: Thanks to Hellers for helping resolve difficult situation

To the editor,

Thank you, Heller Family Foundation, for your contribution to place a statue of a U.S. Colored Troops soldier in the square in Franklin.

With all that is going on, I worried that some misinformed group would decide that the confederate statue would become a target of removable even though no names or ranks are listed.

War is stupid and sickening, yet it is a part of history. I can tell you firsthand. I frequently “doctor up” the cannons on the square as well as many other cannons sprinkled about in Middle Tennessee.

We need to preserve our history and Southern charm. Thanks again.
