Spring Hill's first water plant manager retiring after 40-year career

Vice Mayor Amy Wurth presents Spring Hill Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Caryl Giles with a plaque honoring her 16 years of outstanding service with the city and her 40-year water treatment career. 

The Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday honored Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Caryl Giles, who is retiring after 17 years with the city of Spring Hill and an impressive 40-year career of excellence in water treatment.

Giles is highly regarded among her water utility peers throughout the region. She has paved the way as an industry leader and for women in water treatment and production. She guided the rapidly growing city with her vast experience when the Spring Hill Water Treatment Plant was built in 2003 and was the city's first water plant manager.

She is a member of the Duck River Agency Technical Advisory Committee, the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) and was a past chair of the KY-TN AWWA’s Honors and Awards Committee. Giles also has had a long string of awards over the years, including the City of Spring Hill Department Head of the Year, “Best Tasting Water” Regional Award, Operators Meritorious Service Award-KY-TN Section, the HR Rosson Award for Outstanding Water Plant Operator-TWWA 2009, as well as leading the Spring Hill plant to win the AWWA KY-TN Section Award of Excellence for Plant Operations – Medium Plant Category in 2005, 2013 and 2018.

As a final reflection of her quality service, Giles leaves the city with a 100% score on the Sanitary Survey recently performed on the water system by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Division of Water Resources.
