Eliot Mitchell is running for reelection in District 3.
“It is important for the Williamson County school board to have stable leadership and common purpose as we navigate through these strange and concerning times,” Mitchell said. “I am running to ensure that national and personal agendas do not distract the leadership of Williamson County Schools from delivering the best possible education to all our children.”
Mitchell was first elected to the school board in 2016 after a 12-year run on Spring Hill’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
“I have a passion for community service. Over the last 25 years, I have given my time and energy to countless community activities,” he said. “I have held leadership positions with youth sports organizations, chamber of commerce organizations, community choirs, my church, school PTOs, HOAs, city of Spring Hill and Williamson County Schools.”
Mitchell said that five months ago his focus was on managing growth and ensuring fair pay for teachers, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Williamson County, he switched gears.
“Today, my focus is helping guide the WCS administration through this pandemic. We need to be prepared for another potential shelter-at-home directive. We must be ready to fully teach through the next shelter directive if that is required,” he said. “Another critical and unfortunate focus that is the result of the pandemic is managing our tax dollars through an economic recessionary period. Our 2021 budget is very tight.”
Mitchell said that the school district is the reason he moved to the county and the reason so many others move to the county, saying that its quality is important for the community.
“It is critical for the economic health of our communities that Williamson County Schools continues to be the premier school district in the state of Tennessee,” he said. “I will do everything I can to ensure the education our children receive is the best it can be.”
Mitchell is running against Jennifer Moss.
