The Sunset Middle School National Junior Honor Society is planning a Veteran’s Day program on the morning of Nov. 9. They wish to honor all veterans in the Sunset area community. Students at Sunset may participate in an art contest and/or an essay-writing contest. There will be music provided by the SSMS eighth grade Chorus and the SSMS Band. If you are a veteran living in the SSMS area of Nolensville or Brentwood, and would like to participate in this event, you are invited to contact the SSMS NJHS Advisor Mrs. Carol Hogue at firstname.lastname@example.org regarding attending this ceremony.
In the SSMS Art classroom of Ms. Camille Harlin, eighth graders just hosted special guest songwriter/ singer, Justyna Kelly, Friday, Sept. 28. In our studio session, they sketched Miss Kelly as they recreated the famous portrait, Woman with Guitar by Russian Artist, Aristarkh Lentulov… the medium used is pastel. Seventh grade students are completing a study of Japanese artist, Hokusai, with wet-on wet watercolor technique, while the sixth grade is enjoying the family portraits of American artist, Mary Cassatt. Prior to these grade-level break-out lessons, all students in Art at SSMS explored various forms of abstract art.
