Westhaven Realty sales associate wins national award

PJ Littleton, a Westhaven Realty Sales Associate, was presented with the 2012 Patrick John Hughes Parent / Booster Award Nov. 9, in Indianapolis by Bands of America and Music for All, as part of the 2012 Band of America Grand National Championships.

Littleton received the award recognition for his tireless fundraising efforts in the development of the Hillsboro Middle School Dreamcatcher Band. Littleton is the first parent / booster in history to be presented this award on behalf of a middle school band program.

Prior to Littleton’s efforts, and just two short years ago, Hillsboro Middle School had no band program. Littleton was instrumental in fundraising efforts to purchase instruments and equipment, as well as taking his own personal time and money to paint the band room for students to use. With all these efforts, 30 percent of the Hillsboro Middle School population is now enrolled in the school’s band program, and student participation continues to grow each year.

The Patrick John Hughes Parent / Booster Award is a one of a kind national award, presented annually to one outstanding American parent.  Mr. Hughes, the award’s namesake, supported his handicapped child throughout his musical journey, which included The University of Louisville marching band.

Littleton accepted the award with his family, Hillsboro Middle School Band Director Cameron Gish, as well as his own high school band director, David McCullough, who is the Director of Bands at Butler University, during the ceremony on Nov. 9 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Littleton was also given the opportunity to participate in a round-table discussion regarding the importance of Music and Arts programs in schools.
