The Brentwood Rotary Clubs held their annual First Responders Dinner at Granny White Park in the Rotary pavilion on Thursday, Sept. 9.
Betsy Crossley, president of the Noon Rotary, spoke on behalf of the Rotarians and welcomed many members of the Brentwood Fire and Rescue and Police departments to the event. She then asked for a moment of silence to honor the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11.
Brian Goss, fire chief, explained the difficulties over the past year and a half and the rapidly changing climate for his firefighters. He asked the audience to give a round of applause for his team.
Goss also introduced Firefighter of the Year Robin Forte, an administrative assistant that has been the glue of the department and played a vital part in the success they have had the past year.
Jeff Hughes, police chief, then introduced Brent Phelan as Officer of the Year and Laurie Morgan as Dispatcher of the Year. Morgan retired the same day after an almost 30-year career with the department.
