Eat the Street, Franklin's food truck-themed fundraiser benefiting the 21st Drug Court, returns for its fifth run on Friday, May 6.
The annual event, which is expected to draw an estimated 10,000 people to Franklin’s Bicentennial Park, will feature an eclectic mix of 42 food vendors offering a wide-range of delectable eats and treats sure to satisfy any palate.
Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets for picnic style dining and to enjoy live music by School of Rock Franklin. The event is free and open to the public, though donations are welcome.
“We’re excited to have our house band perform at this year’s Eat the Street,” said Matt Camp, general manager, School of Rock. “The house band includes student performers between the ages of 12-17. Giving them the opportunity to play in front of so many people while also supporting a good cause is fantastic.”
Eat the Street serves as the 21st Drug Court's most important fundraiser of the year. The money raised through sponsorship and vendor fees enables the non-profit to provide program participants with the services, treatment and supervision they need to successfully manage their recovery.
Since its first graduating class in 2004, approximately 135 participants have graduated from the two-year program, demonstrating their commitment to be free from addiction and live a healthy lifestyle.
"We are so grateful to all of our business and media sponsors, partners and volunteers, and to the City of Franklin for continuing to support Eat the Street,” said Connie Martin, drug court coordinator. “Addiction leaves a trail of devastation for families and communities. The 21st Drug Court helps reduce recidivism among drug and alcohol offenders so they are able to rebuild their lives and become healthy, productive members of our community – all while saving taxpayer money."
Eat the Street is from 5-10 p.m. at Bicentennial Park, 400 Fifth Ave. N.
