After shutting down for several weeks, the Williamson County Public Library is once again launching its Library 2 Go service on Monday, which will allow members to call orders in ahead of time and pick up their books, videos and more for rental.

Starting Monday, members can call the main library to place an order of up to 10 items, and the staff will return the call when the order is ready. Patrons can then call when they are in the parking lot, and staff will bring the order to the front door and place it on a table for pickup.

Jeffie Nicholson, a manager at the library, said to allow 30 minutes to an hour before picking up an order. She also said that those who have had items on hold can call in to pick them up during this time as well.

“We’re going to operate like this through the month of May is what we’re anticipating and work towards getting back to staff back in the building,” she said. “We had to go down to minimal staffing in the building, and now we’re going to work towards scaling back up and having enough staff in here to support this service in a safe manner.”

She shared that, when books or other items are returned to the library, they plan to disinfect them and quarantine them for a period before allowing them to be checked out again. Because of this time-consuming process, the library is not currently allowing members to place holds on items.

“In regard to calling and placing holds, that (cleaning process) could create a lull, and it’s a little step that our automated system isn’t able to quantify for at this point, so we’re having to wait until closer to June to try to think about being able to actually place holds,” Nicholson said.

On Monday, this service will be available at the main Franklin library as well as the branches in College Grove, Nolensville and Fairview. Nicholson said the Leiper’s Fork and Bethesda branches will offer the same service starting Tuesday, May 12. Currently, items cannot be transferred from one branch to another for pickup.

Nicholson said items currently checked out will not be due immediately on May 4 but can be returned anytime before June 1 without accruing fines. Items checked out on May 4 or later will also be due no sooner than June 1.

Those with more than $3 in fines on their account are asked to clear them before utilizing this service.

To place an order at the main library, patrons can call at 615-595-1277 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The facility’s hours beginning Monday will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday. The facility will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. This early closure will allow for extra cleaning mid-week. Members can pick up orders during facility hours.
