Muscadine Lines signing this Saturday, Aug. 19

MUSCADINE LINES, a collection of 28 stories and 28 poems by 28 writers, was released by Cold Tree Press, Nashville, Tennessee, in August, 2006. The book, compiled by editor Kathy Hardy Rhodes, features the works of veterans of the Franklin-based online magazine Muscadine Lines: A Southern Journal, asouthernjournal.com, also edited by Rhodes, now in its second year. MUSCADINE LINES contains the works of previously published authors, as well as fresh new voices.

Ten contributors to the anthology are from Franklin/Brentwood: Louise Colln, Susie Dunham, Nancy Fletcher-Blume, Joyce Lee, S. R. (Sally) Lee, C. K. Speroff, Kristin O’Donnell Tubb, Ginger Manley, Ben Norwood, and Marion Bolick Perutelli. There are 18 writers in all from Middle Tennessee.

Two mass signings are scheduled for the book’s debut. On Saturday, August 19, at 1:00, Rhodes and several contributors will gather for a Reading & Signing at Barnes & Noble (Cool Springs) in Brentwood. On Saturday, September 23, at 5:30, Landmark Booksellers in downtown Franklin will host the muscadine writers for a Reading & Signing, along with a taste of muscadine wine. The public is invited to both events.

MUSCADINE LINES is a gathering of stories and poems that epitomize the qualities readers treasure in the best Southern literature—a rich appreciation of language and humor, as well as a dead-on sense of place and character.

From a topless four-year-old who has a run-in with the law, to two mean boys who make football history, to a mother forced to send her substance-abusing teenaged son to a wilderness camp, to a young grandmother run over by a cattle truck and paralyzed, to a blue-haired mamaw who wears lilac perfume and wields a shotgun, MUSCADINE LINES is humorous and heartwarming, sassy and sad, racy and reflective—a collection for every mood.

“The stories herein represent the best of the South!” says Beth Boswell Jacks, author of three books, including Grit, Guts, and Baseball.
