An elderly man was murdered yesterday after suffering several blows to the head with a sling blade at his College Grove home, according to Williamson County Sheriff's Department. After a resident call about possible gun shots fired, deputies were dispatched to 6525 Arno College Grove Road where they found William Thompson, 83, lying on the floor of his home, severely injured.
"This was a very vicious attack on the older man," said Sheriff Ricky Headley at a press conference.
Thompson was taken to Williamson Medical Center where he later died, according to officials.
The Sheriff's Department said the primary suspect of the murder is the victim's son, Hubert Thompson, 60, who was arrested by Metro police in Nashville early this morning and transported to the Williamson County jail. He is being held without bond for a second-degree murder charge.
According to officials, Thompson fled the scene in a white Taurus, which was recovered by authorities in Unionville. They are still investigating whether a shotgun found in the vehicle was fired during the conflict.
Officials are still investigating the relationship between the two men. Thompson had previously filed a restraining order against his son, according to the Sheriff's office, however they are still investigating the case.
