Fair preparations on schedule

All the entertainment is booked, the premium catalog is almost ready to go to print, sponsors are signing on the dotted line, 10 percent of the booths have been secured and a new feature has been added to the 2009 Williamson County Fair.

At the April Fair Board meeting, Lee Sanders announced the Century Farm project for the fair.

There are currently 25 certified Century Farms in Williamson County and according to Sanders, O’Charley’s will sponsor a recognition dinner for the families in an effort to expand the agricultural program in the county. Century Farms are farms that have been in a single family for at least 100 years.

“We feel like there are 15 – 20 more farms that qualify for the program,” Sanders said.

Cheryl Burnside reported fairgoers will get some treats this year. Due to the economy, booth vendors are putting new and creative twists to activities and displays they are offering during the fair’s new hours; 6 – 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and 10 a.m – midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

Fair organizers are utilizing technology to get the word out with a new look to the fair Web site, which will be back in action within a wee, and a Facebook page. Some organizers may even be seen Twittering, but not all – the county mayor is still trying to get a grasp on Facebook, YouTube, and My Space.
