19-year-old Josiah Berger dies from injuries from wreck

19-year-old Josiah Berger died Friday night at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from injuries sustained in a wreck Tuesday night.

The son of Grace Chapel Pastor Steve Berger and wife Sarah had never regained consciousness after the single-car accident, which occurred around 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Vanderbilt officials placed the time of his death as Thursday at 10:13 a.m., but family members kept a vigil around the young man's bed, praying for a miracle.

Throughout the community and around the world via the Internet and sites like Facebook, individuals and groups had been praying for the young man, who graduated earlier this year from Franklin High School.

"Sarah and I wish to thank everyone for your unequalled love and support," Steve Berger wrote in a message posted last night on the church's Web site. "We have fought the good fight of faith, prayed without ceasing and trusted Jesus. Now, we have the joy of realizing our Josiah is in heaven. We take great pride and joy in Siah's decision to donate his organs. Siah will now live on in heaven and earth. Hallelujah forever! To God be the glory!"
