BREAKING NEWS: Mt. Pleasant man found dead in cell at county jail

A 36-year-old Mount Pleasant man reportedly committed suicide Tuesday while being held at the Williamson County Jail, according to a release from Sheriff Jeff Long's office.

According to the release, a man who has been identified as Christopher Joel Sajovic, 36, of Mt. Pleasant was discovered Tuesday at approximately 8:49 p.m. while deputies were making rounds. His body has been released to the medical examiner.

According to Long, Sajovic was in a cell by himself, although it was not an isolation cell, and all the cells in that pod were on lockdown. He had been housed at the Williamson County Jail since Aug. 7 on a charge out of Maury County.

The Daily Herald in Columbia is reporting on its Web site that Sajovic, 36, 8379 Joy Road, Mt. Pleasant, was serving the remainder of a three-year sentence with the Tennessee Department of Corrections for felony vandalism and theft.

Maury County Sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Tennyson told The Daily Herald Sajovic was being held in Williamson County because he was set to testify in an upcoming murder trial, though Tennyson did not know for what trial.
