Williamson County Community Band performs season closer
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department concludes the 2009 Community Band free concert series Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Franklin Recreation Complex, 1120 Hillsboro Road. The Williamson County Community Band, directed by Ken Krause, will present an indoor concert of favorite tunes. This family friendly event will be at 3 p.m. and features a talented group of Williamson County musicians. Gather family and friends and come out for an afternoon filled with great music. Coffee will be served along with delicious desserts.

‘Staying Healthy in a Toxic World’
Healing Home extends an invitation to a free seminar, “Staying Healthy in a Toxic World,” by Dr. Michael Bernui. The seminar will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Healing Home at The Factory at Franklin, Suite 12 D, Franklin.

Veterans Day ceremony
The SUVCW Fort Donelson Camp # 62, 10th Tennessee Infantry U.S., SVR, Veterans Day event will take be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m., at the George White Cemetery, 6915 Arno-Allisona Road, College Grove.
The ceremony will honor the Civil War soldiers of Co. H, 5th TN Cav US. The main ceremony will be at the grave of Capt. William Rickman, Company Commander. A smaller ceremony will then take place three or four miles away at the Hartley Cemetery, 6708 Cross Keys Road, at the graves of Laban Hartley III and William Pyron.
Young Republicans, Child Advocacy to hold walk at Pinkerton Park
The Williamson County Young Republicans, accompanied by First Lady of Tennessee Andrea Conte, will join other community volunteers, leaders and residents in Pinkerton Park in Franklin off of Murfreesboro Road, Saturday, Nov. 7. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and the 4Kwalk will start at 9 a.m. For those who have lots of energy to burn or those who like taking things more leisurely, there are opportunities during this event. Volunteer activities include: setting up signs, tables, serving food, and clean-up. However, those who prefer activities such as putting together goody bags and prizescan also help.
Help share and educate communities on how to prevent and be proactive against child abuse. Come together to raise funds, share education with communities and let others know that there is help for local family in times of need. Bring your family or a friend to participate in this walk to help our children. The Child Advocacy center proudly serves Hickman, Lewis, Perry and Williamson counties.

Holiday craft bazaar and car show
Get your holiday shopping done early at the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department’s 19th annual Holiday Crafts Bazaar and sixth annual Kris Kringle Kar Klassic, Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 8, noon to 4 p.m. Admission is $2. Children age 12 and younger are free. Admission price includes both the craft show and the car show. There is no charge for parking.
The car show and crafts bazaar will be in the climate–controlled Williamson County AgExpo Arena, just off I-65 South at exit 61 in Franklin.
More than 150 vendors will participate in the crafts bazaar, sponsored by 103 WKDF. All items are handcrafted and selected especially for this event. Choose from fine art, one-of-a-kind jewelry items, novelty clothing, pet items, baby goods, woodcrafts, home décor items and more.
Santa’s elves are busy constructing a booth for Santa to visit on both show days so that he can hear the wish lists of all the children and take a photo for mom and dad. Photos cost $3 each. Santa will appear Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday, 1-3 p.m.
On the floor of the arena, visit the Kris Kringle Kar Klassic, an invitational car expo sponsored by Miles Auto Spa, a local luxury car wash, automobile accessory retailer and home garage makeover / organization business. More than 70 classic and modified automobiles will be on display at the show, plus a special collection of European classic cars; the world’s largest manufactured pickup truck; 1929 wrecker; 1950 service vehicle; and 1940 flatbed truck. In addition, Miles Auto Spa will erect a full-scale virtual garage on the arena floor, complete with custom cabinets, flooring and signage.

Unwrap the Gift of You this holiday season
The Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce will host a day-long women's event featuring select speakers, Danielle Miller and Lynette Patterson from the Empowered Women's Network and special guest speakers Dale Smith Thomas, former Mrs. Tennessee, and Sandy Griffin, president of the National Speakers Association of Tennessee, Monday, Nov. 9.
This exclusive event will provide attendees with inspiration, motivation, and practical tips, tools and strategies to make this the best holiday season ever. “One of the most challenging aspects of the holiday season is to remember that you can be in charge of your thoughts and emotions,” said Miller.

Williamson County Rec. facilities closed on Veterans Day
In observance of Veterans Day, all facilities of the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11. Facilities will reopen at their regularly scheduled times beginning Thursday, November 12.
Kid’s Garage Sale at the Longwood Recreation Center
Kids between the ages of 8 and 12 are invited to participate in a garage sale run by kids at the Longview Recreation Center. Have your own booth and make some real money selling gently used toys and clothes. The Kid’s Garage Sale takes place indoors Saturday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to noon.
Kid’s and parents alike will enjoy spending the day shopping for gently used items such as children’s clothes, sporting goods, action figures, computer games, books, and toys of all kinds. Kids will learn the value of work and earning their own money, and parents will be sure to find a bargain. Admission is free.
A 10’x10’ booth space including a table is available for $10. Registration may be made in person or by speaking with a receptionist at 302-0971, ext. 10. No messages please. The Longview Recreation Center is at 2909 Commonwealth Drive in Spring Hill.

College Grove Community Center news and activities
The Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department offers ongoing classes and other activities at the College Grove Community Center, located at 8607 Horton Highway. WCPRD is a public organization, here to benefit the community. No membership is required. Anyone can register for and participate in classes – no facility pass is required. Registration is required for all classes.
Kids’ ceramics: It’s time for fabulous fall ceramics for kids ages 3 and older. Bring in the fall season painting a ceramic piece that you choose. Wear old clothes because it can be messy. Fee: $5. Ceramics will be Thursday, Nov. 19, 5:15-6 p.m. at the College Grove Community Center, 8607 Horton Highway. Call 790-5719, ext. 20 to register.

Drop-n-Shop event at Fairview Rec Complex
Williamson County Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce a Drop-n-Shop event for families on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd. Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to spend a fun-filled day with the staff of the Fairview Complex while their parents enjoy a day of holiday shopping. The kids will enjoy a day in Dickson including lunch at Mr. Gatti’s, a movie at the Roxy 8 Theater and bowling at Thunder Alley.
The cost for the day is $20, and includes lunch and all activities. Participants must pre-register and pay by Tuesday, Nov. 24. Drop-n-Shop is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Santa to visit Christmas Craft Show at Fairview Rec. Center
The 14th annual Christmas Craft Show, Saturday, Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be held at the Fairview Recreation Complex, 2714 Fairview Blvd. This event is filled with holiday gift ideas for the whole family. Crafters will be on hand with wreaths, woodwork, paintings, jewelry, ornaments, furniture and seasonal items. Admission is free and the event is sponsored by Hickory Home Bar-B-Q of Fairview, Wal Mart and H. G. Hills.
Santa Claus will arrive at 1 p.m. to greet the children and hand out Christmas goodies.
A limited number of booths are still available for crafters.
