Charles ‘Cha’ Everett Hughes

Charles “Cha” Everett Hughes, age 66, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at his residence and childhood family farm, located on Mahon Road. He was a Maury County native, and retired from Consolidated Freight.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at The Race Shop, located at 995 Mahon Road, Columbia, TN. The family will greet friends Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 12:30 p.m. State Rep. Ty Cobb will be officiating. A potluck social and celebration will immediately follow the service. Everyone is invited to join. All festivities will be held at The Race Shop.
It was his wish to be cremated and his remains returned to the family farm where he grew up and most recently lived. The family will honor his wishes at a later date in a private ceremony.
Charlie, known by many as “Cha,” was a former Spring Hill alderman; an avid collector of toys, which had been featured on Tennessee Crossroads; a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and a Christian. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Richard and Charlotte Mahon Hughes; brother, Clarence Hughes; sisters, Gail Brook Hughes (infant), Eula Faye Marlin and Christine Hunter.
Survivors include his loving wife and soulmate of 46 years, Thelma Ferguson Hughes; his “girls” Tammy Hughes, Jennifer (Allen) Smith and Christy (Earl) McKee. Also survived by his pride and joy, two grandchildren, his best friend and running mate, Austin Beatty and his beautiful angel Saranda Smith. Also surviving are nephews, Sterling (Paula) Marlin, Steadman (Mandi) Marlin, Mike (Debbie) Fentress and Jerry Fentress and niece, Sutherlin Marlin; sister in law, Wilma (JB) Fentress and other loving family members.
He would also want mentioned his furry friends, Jill, Jane, Checkers, Maggie, Wilbur and the many donkeys, goats, horses, mules, chickens, geese, guineas and ducks that he enjoyed and tended to daily. He also held a special place in his heart for his “extra” grandchildren that always enjoyed a visit with Cha over dinner prepared by Mee-momma. Bailey Boshers, Alex Rector, Henry Patterson, Joseph Patterson, Hayden Burns, Taylor Ellis, Tanner Ellis, Taylor Church, Caleb “Rube” Rubert, Christine Clayton and Chase Chunn. Honorary guests will be “Buster” Billington, Gerald Smith, Morris Matthews, David Edwards, Jeremy Ring, Larry Turner, Carrie Lovett, Darrell Hartley, “Buzz” Floyd, Gwendolyn Warf, Kim Herring, Tracey Groves, Roy Wilhoite, friends at John Deere and Maury County Convenience Center and his special little buddy, Stirlin Blaise Marlin and newest buddy, Langley Faye Marlin.

Nigel Ivan Stone
Nigel Ivan Stone, 80 of Franklin, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009 at Williamson Medical Center.
Mr. Stone was born in Willesden, England and was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church. He was a lay minister with Grace Reform Baptist Church in Merrick, NY, an accomplished poet and was published in an Anthology of Literature. He was also the recipient of awards for volunteer work in various nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Eva Raitz Stone; and sister, Sylvia Forrest. Mr. Stone is survived his wife of 55 years, Barbara Stone; son, Jonathan (Mary) Stone; sister, Joy Ballin; grandchildren, Aleksandra and Evan Dmitri Stone; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 2 p.m., at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Garrison United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Bob Miller. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 4-7 p.m., and one hour prior to service at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.

Harry H. Chrisman
Harry H. Chrisman, 77 of Rockvale, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 in Nashville. A native of Williamson County, he was the son of the late Wiley Allen and Mary Hill Chrisman and was a retired farmer.
Mr. Chrisman is survived by a sister, Emma Hill of Rockvale; three nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at 1 p.m., from the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Nolensville Cemetery in Nolensville.

Macie Alice Holderfield
Macie Alice Holderfield, 96 of Columbia, died Nov. 3, 2009 in Columbia.
She was born in Williamson County to the late James McFarrin Harbison and Tommie Alice Sweeney Harbison.
Mrs. Holderfield was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Cyril Holderfield and sons, Daniel M. Holderfield and Joseph Mark Holderfield and survived by sons, James David (Karen) Holderfield of Columbia, and H.C. (Caroline) Holderfield of Jacksonville, Fla.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, 11 a.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Arch Warren officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 6, 4-8 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home. Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Nashville Electric Service.

Margaret Elizabeth Simmons Rivers
Margaret Elizabeth Simmons, 94 of Franklin, died Nov. 3, 2009.
She was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Oscar and Irene Tomlin Simmons. Mrs. Rivers was preceded in death by husband, J. Brown Rivers and daughter, Dorothy Ann Johnson. She is survived by son in-law, Roland Johnson; grandchildren, James Morgan “JJ” Johnson and Annette (Doug) Burgett; great grandchildren, Brittany Johnson and James Morgan Johnson Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted, Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at 2 p.m., at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Clifton Johnson officiating. Visitation any time prior to the Thursday service. Interment will be in Rivers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne and Vernon Johnson, Ronnie and Steve Simmons, Will Rivers and Larry Davenport. Thomas E. Leinart Sr.
Thomas E. Leinart Sr., 63 of Franklin, died Oct. 30, 2009.
Born in Etowah, he was a retired machinist with the CSX railroad, a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and member of the First United Methodist Church-Franklin, where he volunteered by delivering meals for the Meals on Wheels Program. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society for eight years taking people to and from their chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
The son of the late John and Lucy Leinart, Mr. Leinart is survived by wife, Diana Leinart; son, Thomas E. Leinart Jr. of White Bluff; brothers, James Leinart of Waco, Texas, Raymond Leinart of Oceanside, Calif., and William Leinart of McMinn County.
Services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home; Dr. Lynn Hill officiated. Burial was in Williamson Memorial Gardens with military honors. Pallbearers were James, Raymond and William Leinart, Thomas E. Leinart Jr., Jay Leinart and Samuel Leinart. Honorary pallbearer was Gene Weaver.

Stella Harmon Ambruso
Stella Harmon Ambruso, 86, of Franklin, died Oct. 29, 2009.
Born in Manchester, NH to the late Emanulle and Yeseme Kannellas Baballas, she was an executive secretary for Pratt and Whitney, a hostess at Frank’s Restaurant in Hartford, Conn. and owned her own business, Avon Collection Agency. She was also an employee of Sam’s Club as a demo lady.
Preceded in death by her companion, Ted Reznicki and husband, Salvatore Ambruso, she is survived by daughter, Linda Harmon Southergill of Spring Hill; sister, Helen (Charles) Goulekas; grandchildren, Bryan (Grace) Southergill, Adam Southergill, John (Meredith) Southergill, and Travis (Kelsey) Southergill; and great grandchild, Isabel Southergill. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Marion Madeline Sweazey
Marion Madeline Sweazey, 80 of Franklin, died Oct. 31, 2009.
She was the former owner and operator of Baskin Robbins on East Main Street in Franklin. She was active in the Franklin High School Band Boosters and active Cub Scout leader and recipient of the Long Rifle Award.
Mrs. Sweazey was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Esther Kranich Stobert. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, MacVean Sweazey; sons, Mark Sweazey, Matt Sweazey and Michael (April) Sweazey; daughter, Marlene (Buddy) Carter; sister, Dorothy Saylor; and grandchildren, Will and Dylan Carter and Riker Sweazey.
A remembrance gathering will held Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, 2-3 p.m. at Williamson Funeral Home.

Penny Jo Bass
Penny Jo Bass, 42 of the Flat Creek Community, died Oct. 30, 2009 at her home. She was a member of Hillview Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Joe Starnes. Mrs. Bass is survived by her husband, Robert Allen “Bubby” Bass; sons, Robert Dillon Bass and Corey Daniel Bass; mother, Mamie Ruth (Harold) Tomlin; mother in-law, Caffie Jane Bass; brother, Michael Starnes; sisters, Pamela (Steve) Anderson and Paula Starnes; sister in-law, Pam (Larry) Conner and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 1, 2009 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home; Reid Hughes, Gwen Pullen and Jim Taylor officiated. Burial was in Williamson Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Slaughter, Brandon Jones, Steve Gray, Dean Schnakenberg, Austin Pierce and Willie Poteete. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Monk, Berry Don Wade, Troy Smithson, Brian and David Anderson, Timmy and Tommy Gray, Brad Williams and Curtis Conner.

Everette Blythe Woodside
Everette Blythe Woodside, 82 of College Grove, died Sept. 10, 2009.
He was a longtime Williamson County farmer.
Mr. Woodside was preceded in death by wife, Lorene Hicks Woodside. He is survived by sons, Ray (Ellen) Woodside; stepson, Ronald (Joyce) Crutcher; stepdaughter, Linda (James) Crockett-Jackson; brothers, Thomas Woodside and Raymond (Lucille) Woodside; sister, Margaret Crowell; grandchildren, Travis (Kim) Woodside and Tracie Edwards; step granddaughters, Susan (Chris) Deneen and Elizabeth (Baxter) Southern; and nine great grandchildren.
The service was held Sept. 12, 2009 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home; Rev. Chris Deneen officiated. Interment was in
Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers were family and friends.
