Veterans Day observances set throughout the next week

Due to the mid-week fall of Veterans Day on Wednesday, Nov. 11, a number of events have been planned, starting as early as Saturday.
The Town of Nolensville will celebrate Veterans Day on Saturday Nov. 7 with a parade and special breakfast. Everyone is invited to help honor the veterans.
The parade of veterans and supporters will begin at 11 a.m. on Oldham Road. It will travel down Dortch Road to Stonebrook and enter Nolensville Road. The parade will travel through the heart of Nolensville, turn down Nolensville Park Road, and end at the Ballpark.
The breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will feature information about Nolensville veterans and their service to our country. Registered veterans and a guest attend free of charge but the cost for non-veterans is $10.
The breakfast will be held at the former Nolensville Elementary School, located at the corner of Stonebrook and Nolensville Road. Nolensville singer Bernadette will be the featured entertainment. For more information, please contact nolensvillevets@comcast.net.
The SUVCW Fort Donelson Camp # 62, 10th Tennessee Infantry U.S., SVR, Veterans Day event will take be held Saturday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m., at the George White Cemetery, 6915 Arno-Allisona Road, College Grove.
The ceremony will honor the Civil War soldiers of Co. H, 5th TN Cav US. The main ceremony will be at the grave of Capt. William Rickman, Company Commander. A smaller ceremony will then take place three or four miles away at the Hartley Cemetery, 6708 Cross Keys Road, at the graves of Laban Hartley III and William Pyron.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home and the city of Spring Hill will host their ninth annual Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Main Street in Spring Hill.
Speakers this year are Command Sgt. Major Bill Marley of the Tennessee Army National Guard and James Patterson, U.S. Army veteran and Veterans Service Officer for Maury County.
The theme for this year’s program is “Broad Stripes & Bright Stars,” honoring the flag of the United States of America.
Members of the Spring Hill High School Army JROTC will be participating.
Refreshments will be served immediately after the service.
On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the city of Franklin and WAKM-AM 950 Radio will hold a Veterans Day Parade from Five Points in Franklin through the Public Square. The event will begin with a brief ceremony at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park at Five Points in Franklin.
The parade will feature high school marching bands and ROTC units, schoolchildren from Franklin Special Schools and Battle Ground Academy.
The grand marshal for the “Saluting the Real Heroes” parade is Col. Paul Fleenor, (Ret.). A veteran of the Korean War, Fleenor spearheads the “Honor Flight” program in Williamson County. The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices.
The parade route travels down Main Street, from Five Points to The Factory at Franklin.
That evening, as part of the observance of its 100th anniversary, Franklin High School will host a special veterans recognition ceremony on at 6:30 pm in the school auditorium. All veterans and their families are invited to attend. Veterans should arrive and register by 6:15 p.m.
Legendary coach, World War II veteran and author Jimmy Gentry will introduce the reading of the roll of honor. Principal Willie Dickerson will present an honorary diploma to 86-year-old Harry Sanders, who quit Franklin High School to work on the farm and a year later, was flying combat missions in China.

In observance of Veterans Day, all facilities of the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 11. Facilities will reopen at their regularly scheduled times beginning Thursday, Nov. 12.
