  • The Friends of the Williamson County Public Library will hold their third and final book sale of the year, Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 12-14 at the Main Library, 1314 Columbia Ave., Franklin. The sale opens Thursday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. and will continue that day until 7 p.m. Friday hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. On Saturday, all remaining items will be offered at half price until noon. At noon, remaining books can be purchased for $5 a bag full. Book prices are $5 for coffee table books. The original price on some of these books can reach $50 for a single copy. Hardbacks are $3, trade paperbacks $2, pocket paperbacks 50 cents and all video materials (DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes) are $1 each. Some DVD and CD “collections” have been higher priced due to the number of CDs or DVDs included. Children’s books are either 50 cents or $1, depending on size.   • The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Fort Donelson Camp #62 will hold a Veterans Day commemoration, Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the George White Cemetery, 6915 Arno-Allisona Road, College Grove. The ceremony be held at the grave of Capt. William O. Rickman and will honor the Civil War soldiers of Co. H, 5th Tennessee Cavalry U.S. Afterward the celebration at the gravesite a second and shorter ceremony will take place at the nearby Hartley Cemetery, 6708 Cross Keys Road, at the graves of Laban Hartley, III, and William H. Pyron. Warwick of the Williamson Historical Society will give a brief history of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry U.S. The 10th Tennessee Infantry U.S., Sons of Veterans Reserve, will provide uniformed color and honor guards. This month's meeting, six months in the making, will feature Michael Miller, the Director of Programs at Michigan's Acton Institute. He will speak on "The 'Victory' of Socialism" and how we can stop the New World Order espoused by Marx, Chavez Castro, and now Obama. Miller is a prolific author and researcher, focusing on moral philosophy, economic development and political theory.   • The City of Franklin will collect batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze and electronics, (BOPAE) Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 417 Century Court, Franklin. The BOPAE drop-off site will be open Monday through Friday, beginning Nov. 23, 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City of Franklin Solid Waste Department. Items accepted from Williamson County Residents Only, no commercial items can be accepted. Keep Williamson Beautiful will hold a shred day, Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 417 Century Court, Franklin. To help prevent identity theft, residents may consider taking advantage of this free opportunity to safely shred and recycle their personal documents that may contain identification numbers. The Williamson County Sheriff Department will also hold a medicine collection for unused prescription drugs, Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.   • Storied country music artists – including Grand Ole Opry member George Hamilton IV – who in 1980 formed the Music City Christian Fellowship to take their belief in Christ to country music fans, will stage a “Sunday Mornin’ Country” concert as an outreach effort of New Hope Church for the Brentwood and Nashville communities.   • “Celebrating 10 Years of BrightStone--Favorites from the Past,” is the theme of this year’s BrightStone Christmas Program, Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Jamison Hall in The Factory at Franklin. The progam is BrightStone’s “gift” to the community and includes selections performed by BrightStone adults. It is produced by Judy Fincannon.This year’s performance will highlight a variety of favorites and celebrate BrightStone’s 10-year history.   • Santa is coming to town and you are invited. Sign up your child for Story Time with Santa presented by the Williamson County Parks and Recreation Department. Santa will be making a special trip from the North Pole Friday, Dec. 11, 7-8:30 p.m. to visit the Longview Recreation Center. Kids, come dressed in your favorite PJ’s to have cookies and milk while listening to Santa read a holiday story. After story time, each child will have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and give their Christmas wish list. Parents don’t forget to bring your cameras. Kids ages 10 and younger are invited to Story Time with Santa. The cost is $3 per child, and parents are free. Space for this special event is limited and reservations are first come first served. Registration is Monday, Nov. 23 through Wednesday, Dec. 9 or until full. Payment must be made within five days of registration.   • Attention all kids 8 to 12 years old: Recycle your old games and toys and make a little holiday spending money by selling your slightly used items at the Kids’ Garage Sale, Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Franklin Recreation Complex. Sign up now to be a vendor at this event. Booth space is only $10, and includes a table. A parent must come along, but kids are expected to do most of the work. To reserve a booth, call 790-5719, ext. 44. Space is limited (first-come, first-serve) and pre-payment is required. The vendor registration deadline is Nov. 27. This free indoor event is open to the public, Saturday, Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to noon.
