The architectural firm of Hinson Miller Kickirillo Architects PLLC has chosen to celebrate the firm’s 10th anniversary by partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County (HFHWC) to help construct a home for April Dixon and her family.
The home built with the support of Hinson Miller Kickirillo Architects PLLC will be dedicated Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. It is located 1226 Carter St. in Franklin.
According to the three owners, Neal Hinson, Don Miller and Beth Kickirillo, who started the firm in 1999, “We decided to choose a project that would make a positive impact on the community. Sponsoring and funding a Habitat home gave us the opportunity to get personally involved and to invite friends and business associates to join us in a good cause. It has been a wonderful experience to get to know April, her family and to know that we played a part in helping her achieve her dream of home ownership.”
Dixon is excited about her new home. As with many HFHWC homeowners, she is a lifelong resident of Franklin and has been a certified medical biller for over 15 years. She currently works for Enablecomp, a third-party billing company that specializes in workers’ compensation claims. While raising three children, Dixon has earned over 420 sweat equity hours including an eight-week budget coaching class, one segment of HFHWC’s mandatory Homebuyers’ Education curriculum.
“I am thankful for the many hands that have helped build this home,” Dixon said. “After witnessing a shooting in the parking lot of my apartment in Nashville, I wanted a safe place to raise my children. With God’s help, I now have that opportunity.”
Construction Manager for HFHWC, Gregg Elliott said “This home is certified by Energy Star and the National Green Building Standard. Each home is independently tested and certified. Part of our enhanced mission is to incorporate Christian and environmental stewardship while reducing energy usage, environmental impact and lifetime maintenance costs for our partner families.”
Since 1992, Williamson County Habitat for Humanity has partnered with local churches, businesses, foundations and the public sector to provide 96 hardworking, lower-income Williamson County families with an opportunity to purchase their own home. Home construction and neighborhood development is funded through tax-deductible financial contributions and in-kind donations from local businesses, churches, civic organizations and individuals. These contributions, along with the labor of sponsor employees, members and other volunteers enable Williamson County Habitat to build and sell homes to selected families who partner with Williamson County Habitat.
Families are selected to partner with HFHWC based on three criteria: ability to pay the mortgage; need for affordable housing and willingness to partner. After an extensive qualification process, Partner Families earn up to 500 hours of “sweat equity” by completing a Homebuyer’s Education program, working on others’ and their own homes. Homes are purchased through a 30-year, interest-free mortgage making the payments affordable. Habitat homeowners continue an ongoing relationship with Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County and agree to certain post-closing restrictive covenants that continue throughout the 30-year life of the mortgage.
