John Ray Dalton, 69 of Franklin, Tenn., died July 14, 2010.
He was a graduate of Franklin High School and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of the UT football team, 1959-1963, and T-Club. Mr. Dalton was an educator and coach at Ware County High School, Waycross, Ga.; Tift County High School, Tifton, Ga.; Franklin High School, Franklin, Tenn.; and Brentwood Academy, Brentwood, Tenn., for a career total of 46 years. He was inducted into Tennessee Coaches Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2008. The wrestling gym in newly expanded Brentwood Academy Athletic Center is dedicated and named Dalton Gymnasium in 2009.
A loving and loyal Christian son, husband, father, grandfather, and mentor to students he taught and athletes he coached.
Mr. Dalton is survived by parents, Frank and Marian Dalton of Spring Hill, Tenn.; wife of 46 years, Betty Dalton; daughters, Leah (Mike) Berry of Knoxville, Tenn.; Mary Rae (Brent) Moore of Franklin, Tenn.; Julie (Matt) Teglas of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Orly Berry, Alina and Jack Moore, Adeline Teglas.
A Celebration of Life services was held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at The Peoples Church in Franklin; Dr Jim Harvey officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Berry, Jim Burge, Thomas Fiveash, Carlton Flatt, Bobby Gentry, Jimmy Gentry, Brent Moore, Matt Teglas. Honorary pallbearers are former Franklin High and Brentwood Academy athletes and fellow coaches.
The family extends its appreciation to Dr. George L. Holmes, Dr. Craig Ferrell, and the Williamson Medical Center for their compassionate and dedicated care.
