Reed Butler, obituary

Reed Butler, 42, of Spring Hill, TN, and owner of Butler Fence Company, died July 21, 2011 at Williamson Medical Center, after an extended and courageous battle with cancer. 

Reed had a passion for farming, where he grew up on his family’s farm in the Carters Creek Community. He was an avid cattleman, and took much pride in his cattle business.  He loved horses, enjoyed calf roping with his friends for many years, and also participated in many competitions.  Reed was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church, a 1987 graduate of Spring Hill High School and a 1990 graduate of the Area Vocational Technical School in Nashville, with a certificate in HVAC.  He worked for Morgan Bros. Electric and Sandrell Heating and Cooling for several years.  

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruben Leon and Evelyn Walker Church and Walter Neil and Martha Edwards Butler. Mr. Butler is survived by his parents, Jack and Wanda Godbee Butler of Columbia, Tenn.; fiancé and love of his life, Joan Smith of Spring Hill, Tenn.; sister, Jan (Phil) Sutherland of Columbia, Tenn.; niece, Rachel Elizabeth Sutherland; and nephews, Lane Butler Sutherland and Luke Walker Sutherland; aunts and uncles, Jimmy and Ethel Butler, Betty and Bud Hurt, Joe and Emily Butler, and Martha and James Lee; cousins, Brenda and Carey Blue, Linda and Bill McMillin, David and Kari Butler, and Mike and Sonya Butler; great aunt and great uncle, Harry Walker and Bertha Walker Adkisson; other cousins and many friends. 

Funeral services were be conducted Monday, July 25, 2011 at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, Bro. Thomas Vann officiating. Interment was in Lasting Hope Cemetery.  Pallbearers were be Phil Sutherland, Kenneth Smith, Keith Bradley, Mike Thompson, Mike Butler, David Butler, John Murphy, Keith Whitley, and Blaine Keysaer. Honorary pallbearers were Rachel Sutherland, Lane Sutherland, Luke Sutherland, Rodney Shaw, Hosea Mendez, John Williams, Bud Mitchum, Freddie Murphy, Marvin Sauer, Charlie Fitzgerald, Will Carlisle, Oncology Department of Williamson Medical Center, Dr. Ruth Lamar, Dr. Christina Fiske, Dr. Aaron Paul Milstone, and all his roping friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Maury County Unit, P.O. Box 1864, Columbia, TN 38402 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105. 

Arrangements are by Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home in Spring Hill, Tenn.
