Williamson County Fair opens with great crowds

Friday night’s opening saw the opening of The Williamson County Fair at the Ag Expo Park in Franklin. “Attendance was up and we experienced the second best Midway sales in Williamson County Fair history” according to Fair Chairman, Rogers Anderson. The “Seattle Wheel” returned to the Midway after a two-year absence. This is the historic ferris wheel that was featured in the movie, “It happened at the World’s Fair” starring Elvis Presley in 1962.
In livestock area news this year, the American Dairy Goat Assn District Three Alpine Specialty Show has more than 238 animals entered. They have come from Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The Junior Market Goat Show that is scheduled on the seventh promises well over 100 head, making it the largest county show. For the first time in WCF history, there are two kids from Williamson County that will be showing, Jordan Curtis and Morgan Hutchins. In the Open Breeding Sheep Show scheduled on the eleventh, there are 416 head entered. This will make it the largest show of its kind in Tennessee.
The Fair goes on until Saturday, Aug. 11. The theme this year is “Life On The Farm” and features Agricultural displays, Creative Arts, Culinary Arts, 4-H, Midway rides, Bluegrass Festival, music entertainment, Pageants, “Sing Your Heart” competition, and great fair food. Admission is just $6 for adults and $3 for kids at the gates with discounted tickets at Tractor Supply Company Stores and Daily’s Convenience Stores in Middle Tennessee. Parking is free courtesy of NISSAN and The Vanderbilt Health Main Stage is in the air conditioned arena. Plenty of fun for kids with Little 1”s Farming, Children’s Barnyard, “Thank A Farmer” Magic Show, Balloon Artist, The Groove Club, Great American Frontier Show, and much more.
There are discounted coupons on the back of our leaflets distributed at Williamson County Chick-Fil-A’s and Sonic. Fireworks are presented nightly by Haury & Smith, Inc and Tenn Contractors, Inc. School Spirit Day is Thursday, Aug. 9, when visitors wearing their favorite school spirit shirt are admitted free (professional sport teams does not apply). The last Saturday, Aug. 11, is Patriot Day, when we proudly offer free admission for active and retired Veterans.
