Brentwood Police ask residents to 'Park Smart'

The Brentwood Police Department recently began a new initiative in an attempt to educate the public and seek their cooperation to prevent  thefts from vehicles. The “Park Smart” program is designed to provide residents with information on how to avoid becoming a victim.

The City of Brentwood has seen an increase in theft from vehicle cases in parking lots near retail areas, exercise facilities, and more recently city parks. The most common items targeted by thieves include; purses, wallets, laptop computers, iPod’s/iPad’s, cell phones and GPS units.

Brentwood Police Officers have increased patrols in the affected areas and are attaching Park Smart Cards to some parked vehicles.  These cards provide advice for residents to lock their vehicles, secure their valuables and remove keys.

The next step in the program will involve posting of Park Smart signage in parking lots and other problem areas.
Additional tips to avoid becoming a victim can be found on the Brentwood Police Department website at www.brentwoodpolice.org.
