Got Heroes? Darrell Waltrip Automotive seeks local hero nominations

For the past 18 months Darrell Waltrip Automotive's Hometown Heroes has honored local heroes and donated thousands of dollars to local charities in honor of the awarded heroes. Throughout 2011, and now well into 2012, inspiring stories were shared of a fire fighter’s persistence to protect his city, a soldier’s determination to defend his country, and a teacher’s commitment to her students both in and out of the classroom. More stories were shared of a mother’s support of her special need child, doctors who serviced those without means to healthcare, and businessmen spending their weekends helping build homes and schools.

Darrell Waltrip Automotive is looking for even more nominations, committing to once again donate $500 each month to various non-profit organizations close to the hearts of the heroes.

It is easy to nominate online at -- enter your name, the name of your hero, and a brief description of how they are making a difference in their community. The chosen hero of the month then chooses their favorite charity for DWA to donate the $500.

The following are some of the heroes who have been honored as well as their favorite charity:  Robert Houston Barker - Franklin Lions Club; Mary Beth Gates - High Hopes; Dr. David Vanderpool - Mobile Medical Disaster Relief; Kenny Lane - Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home of Brentwood; Richard Chapman - Habitat for Humanity; Evelyn Hickerson - Gentry’s Summer Camp; Dr. Richard Anderson  - Grace Medical Clinic; Mike Reeder - Challenged Athletes Foundation; Jim Charron - Project Reflect; Monty McInturff- Friends of Franklin’s Parks; Jan Lincoln- Our Thrift Store & ARC; The Wilson Family- My Life Speaks; Vanderbilt LifeFlight’s Team- Vanderbilt LifeFlight; Millie Webb- Mother’s Against Drunk Driving (MADD); Ermon Lature- Habitat for Humanity; John Murphy- Hard Bargin Association; Jennifer Krahenbill- Waves, Inc.
