Ravenwood won their third-consecutive Class AAA volleyball state championship Friday night, staging an epic comeback against rival Brentwood in the schools’ eighth meeting of the season.
Losing the first two sets and facing elimination, the Lady Raptors surged to win three consecutive for the championship – 24-26, 21-25, 25-15, 25-10, 15-9.
Ravenwood’s Kat Hutson was named Most Valuable Player of the Class AAA championship match for the second year in a row.
The teams previously met in the semifinal round where the Lady Raptors won 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-17, sending Brentwood to the losers’ bracket. Once there, the Lady Bruins promptly defeated Sullivan South 25-13, 25-21, 25-14 to set up a rematch with Ravenwood.
Brentwood played 19 sets over the course of the tournament, losing just one against a team not named Ravenwood – 13-25 against Ooltewah in the quarterfinals.
