Third Waltrip Brothers charity championship most successful yet

Last week’s third annual Waltrip Brothers’ Charity Championship was the most successful yet, raising more than $350,000 for Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) and Feed The Children.

The two-day fundraiser organized by NASCAR brothers Darrell and Michael Waltrip and comprised of the Champion’s Dinner presented by Hendrickcars.com and a golf tournament in Franklin, far exceeded donations from the previous two years’ events.  Several top names from the NASCAR, country music, sports and entertainment world were on hand and lent their support not only with their participation, but with their donations of autographed items for auction.

Country music superstars Brad Paisley and Darius Rucker performed for the crowd at the opening night’s Champion’s Dinner presented by Hendrickcars.com at The Factory, while sports icons Shaquille O’Neal and Eddie George, four-time IZOD IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti and NASCAR driver Mark Martin also were in attendance.  NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin played in the next day’s golf tournament.

“Michael and I had a vision four years ago to raise money for our favorite charities, so we set out to organize the best golf tournament NASCAR had ever seen,” Darrell Waltrip said. “After three years, I think we’ve reached our goal, and we did so with the help of folks like Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Shaq, Eddie George, Dario Franchitti and many NASCAR drivers and personalities. With spotlights and cameras flashing and the red carpet rolled out, it was just like Hollywood right here in Franklin, but MRO and Feed The Children were the real stars in the end.”

“I literally was blown away by the outpouring of support we received this year,” Michael Waltrip added. “We couldn’t be prouder of what was accomplished this year, and we extend an enormous ‘thanks’ to everyone who made our Charity Championship a must-attend event in the coming years. We couldn’t have done it without the help of each and every person.”

The Waltrips already have set next year’s fourth annual Waltrip Brothers’ Charity Championship for Oct. 23-24 in Franklin.
