The Franklin Fire Departments welcomed 14 recruit firefighters into their ranks at a graduation ceremony yesterday.
The graduates, including eight firefighters from Franklin and six from Dickson, have completed the Franklin Fire Department’s intensive 10-week recruit firefighting training program. The ceremony took place at Franklin’s City Hall.
During the program, which is approved by the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy and the Tennessee Commission on Firefighting, recruit firefighters completed 400 hours of both classroom and hands-on firefighting and emergency rescue training drills, under the direction of Franklin Fire Department’s Training Division including Assistant Chief Glenn Johnson and Captain Jonathan Jenkins.
Franklin Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek said four of Franklin’s eight new firefighters have come from out-of-state, including Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio. The other four are from Tennessee. They bring a combined total of 30 years of firefighting experience and 35 years of Emergency Medical Service experience to the department.
Garzarek said the new Franklin firefighters would begin responding to calls on Dec. 6 after they have completed mandatory EMS ride-alongs.
Garzarek said, “I’m very proud of these men and their accomplishments. They’ve completed a rigorous professional training program and I’m confident they will be assets to the Franklin and Dickson Fire Departments.”
The new firefighters for Franklin Fire Department include: Daniel Burke, Nolensville, – two years of prior firefighting experience; Trenton Zorn, Cedar Rapids, Iowa – three years of prior EMS experience; Michal S. Henry, Kokomo, Iowa/Cross Plains, Tenn. – six years of prior firefighting/17 years EMS experience; Pete Jones, Marion, Ohio – two yrs of prior firefighting experience; Austin Cooper, Thompson’s Station, – no prior firefighting experience; Chris Daniel, Covington, Tenn. – three years prior firefighting experience; Jerry Thomas, Memphis, Tenn. – 10 years prior firefighting/EMS experience;
Josh Erickson, Monroe, Mich. – seven years of volunteer firefighting experience/ five years EMS experience.
Firefighters completing the training program from the Dickson Fire Department include:
Jason Grove, Burns, Tenn. – two years as a volunteer with Dickson Fire; full time since July; Darren Daniel, White Bluff, Tenn. – two years as a volunteer with Dickson; full time since July; Chris McNeil, Burns, Tenn. – 13 years of fire service experience; Michael Hunter, Charlotte, Tenn. – 13 years as a volunteer, hired with Dickson July 2012
Dustin Daniel, White Bluff, TN – two years as a volunteer with Dickson; full time since November 2011; Jeremy Blanks, Dickson, TN – 12 years as a volunteer, hired with Dickson December 2011;
