Toy Drive for children of wounded and fallen Ft. Campbell soldiers, Dec. 7 in Cool Springs

Nine-year-old Daniel C Jr., son of a Ft. Campbell soldier, doesn’t fully understand why his daddy isn’t at home a lot. But he does understand that it’s almost Christmas and he’s hoping Santa will bring him Skylander, Angry birds or a Star Wars place set. Eight-year-old Isabella, daughter of another Ft. Campbell solider, has her heart set on an Easy Bake Oven or an art set.

These are just two of the many wish lists submitted by children of soldiers serving at Ft. Campbell. Although having their daddies home for Christmas would be the ultimate gift, the toys provide a sense of continuity in the otherwise unpredictable life of a military family.

Franklin business woman Barb Izzo’s wish is to help make sure none of the children of our heroes are forgotten this Christmas. “I lost my brother in Viet Nam,” said Izzo, chairwoman of the Middle Tennessee Postal Customer Council, sponsor of the drive. “I know first-hand how difficult the injury or death of a loved one serving in the military can be, especially on the children.”

The PCC is sponsoring an open house and Christmas party Dec. 7, 6-9 p.m. at Chadwick’s Fitness Center on Seaboard Lane in the Cool Springs area to gather gifts for the children of Ft. Campbell soldiers.

“We are gathering toys for children of soldiers currently deployed who can’t be home for Christmas, children of injured soldiers and children of soldiers who won’t be coming home at all,” added Izzo

Izzo said persons wishing to help but unable to attend the open house can bring gifts to the AMI office at 7014 Crossroads Blvd, Suite 110 across from Cool Springs Mall any time prior to the Dec. 7 open house.

“We’ve posted a wish list submitted by many of the children on our website at to give folks an idea of things the children are wanting”, said Izzo.
