Three collegiate volleyball players formerly of schools from Williamson County look to add a NCAA championship to their resume this week.
Meredith Richardson, a graduate of Ravenwood High School, leads North Carolina State to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1987. The 22-9 Wolfpack play Texas A&M Thursday in Austin, Texas. Currently a junior, Richardson was District Most Valuable Player in 2009 for Ravenwood, leading the Lady Raptors to a state runner up finish her senior year.
Madelyn Hutson, also a graduate of Ravenwood, is currently a sophomore for the University of Texas. She was the No. 13 ranked prospect by Prep Volleyball in 2011. Her Longhorns take on Colgate Thursday with a potential showdown with her former Lady Raptor teammate Nov. 30.
Nicole Smith, a graduate of Page High School, returns from a knee injury that ended her sophomore season to lead Notre Dame to the NCAA tournament. Their first appearance since 2009, the Fighting Irish will face Ohio State Nov. 30 in Lexington, KY. Smith won four Region titles at Page and was named Region MVP three times.
