Nevil Family 5K Walk and Katyís Mile, Dec. 15
By Donna O'Neil, Managing Editor
Friends of the Nevil family of Sullivan Farms have been trying to help Steve Nevil pick up the pieces after a tragic accident, Nov. 16, took the life of his wife, Katy, 38, while the couple traveled with their children from Franklin to Texas to celebrate Thanksgiving with relatives.
The accident also left the couple’s 12-year-old daughter Lauren with injuries so severe that she had to be placed in a medically-induced coma. The Page Middle School student remains hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury. Nine-year-old Will has been released from the hospital, but lingering memories of the accident remain.
On Saturday, Dec. 15, neighborhood organizers will host the Nevil Family 5K Walk and Katie’s Mile, beginning at 9 a.m. The event starts and finishes at the Sullivan Farms pool on Donelson Creek Parkway. Organizers are encouraging people to carpool or even walk to the event if they live close enough.
Proceeds from the walk will help defray the medical costs the family has incurred since the accident. It is also intended to honor Katy Nevil.
Participants will follow a 5K route through the neighborhood and may choose to do the full route or opt for a one-mile route – Katy’s Mile. All ages and abilities are invited to participate.
There is no specific entry fee. Organizers are asking that participants donate what they feel they are able. There will be a sign-in sheet at the event, but no formal registration is being conducted.
Those interested are asked to email the number of people who will be participating to firstname.lastname@example.org.
A Facebook page has also been established for the event. Visit www.Facebook.com/The-Nevil-Family-5K-Walk-And-Katys-Mile. The event will be held rain or shine.
