The 21st District Drug Court’s second-annual community breakfast, held at Puckett’s Gro. & Restaurant in downtown Franklin, raised more than $32,000—double the contributions from the 2011 event.

A recent Drug Court graduate shared her incredible story, sharing the details of her journey and citing the program as a path to recovery. It was an opportunity she might not have had without the support of the people in attendance.

The Peterson Foundation for Parkinson’s was the presenting sponsor, and dozens of contributions—including anonymous donations of $10,000 and $2,500—will make a tremendous difference in the Drug Court’s ability to provide specialized treatment for childhood sexual abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), family support and other assistance to participants.

“This program is changing lives, and it’s rewarding to see the community rally around getting our participants the help they need,” said Drug Court Director Marianne Schroer. “We have an opportunity to help people who have committed crimes as the result of addiction become productive members of society. It’s a rigid program, but it’s built on love, and the outcomes are so positive for everyone involved.”

The 21st Drug Court currently includes 38 participants in Williamson, Hickman, Perry and Lewis counties. More than 100 people have graduated from the program since its inception, including 14 last August.

The event’s planning committee included Heather Beal, Xandy Bradshaw, Eunetta Kready, Kat McElroy, Phil Newman, Juanita Patton, Damon Rogers and Stacey Watson.

The 21st Drug Court is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
