Waves gives back through their annual Holiday Photo Booth

The Christmas spirit was certainly in the air at 1405B Brookwood Avenue, Waves’ Adult Day Program during the holidays. Homemade snowflakes were hung from the ceiling, favorite Christmas tunes were playing and everyone was waiting their turn to have their picture taken in front of a beautiful white Christmas tree.

So, what makes Waves’ Christmas party different from any other festive gathering?

According to Waves’ recreation therapist, Julie Long, “Our Christmas gathering is a little different than the typical holiday party. Each member of Waves’ day program and residential services brings in a few dollars to have their picture taken in front of our Christmas tree. After all the pictures are taken, we collect the money and donate it to a local charity. This is a chance for us to give back. Waves is so blessed to have individual donors and corporations who want to partner with us in giving individuals with intellectual disabilities a chance to live, work and learn in our community. This year, we decided to donate our money to Franklin Rotary at Breakfast. They have been a huge supporter of Waves over the years. For example, they have helped us purchase therapy equipment, repair our recycle truck and donated instruments for our Music Therapy program. The photo booth gives us an opportunity to say thank you!”

About Waves

Since 1973, Waves, Inc. has provided a broad range of services for adults with developmental disabilities in Williamson County. In 1984, Waves added services for children. Now, our Early Childhood Learning Program serves children of all abilities including typically developing children and children with developmental delays and disabilities. Our non-profit organization began in Fairview, Tennessee by a group of citizens who wanted to ‘make Waves’ for people with developmental disabilities and almost four decades later, we’re dedicated to continuing that vision.
