New Independence High School Athletic Director Greg Glass announced Jan. 17 that Scott Blade has been chosen as the new head football coach for the IHS program. He was formally introduced to the team the following afternoon.
Blade comes from Oak Ridge High School, having served as the head coach there for the last four years where he comprised an overall record of 35-15, winning the district and being named District Coach of the Year in 2012.
“Coach Blade brings a lot of championship experience and passion for the game of football to our program,” Glass said. “We are excited to have him take over our program and are confident that he will build on the success we’ve had. He is a classy, hardworking coach who will get the most out of his players.”
Independence Principal Todd Campbell is equally excited about the hire.
“We are very thrilled to have Coach Blade join the Independence family as our head football coach,” he said. “I think his overall record of 72 wins and 20 losses, as well as a state championship and other outstanding awards in a seven-year span as a head coach, speaks volume about him and his formula for success. The Indy Nation can definitely look forward to some exciting football to come.”
Pending reference and background checks, Blade is expected to join the faculty of IHS as soon as possible.
Blade takes over for Kevin Dyson, who resigned as head football coach and athletic director after the fall semester to become Assistant Principal at Stewarts Creek High School in Rutherford County.
