Williamson County GOP elects McAlindon as party chair

The Williamson County Republican Party Tuesday held its biennial convention to elect delegates and officers to lead the local party another two years with plenty of local, state and national elected officials also participating in the process.

Following in her father’s and U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s footsteps, Mindy McAlindon was elected as the second woman chairman of the county party. Blackburn was the first woman elected to the position serving from 1989-1991 and McAlindon’s father, Doug Grindstaff was party chair from 2005-09.

McAlindon will hit the ground running with plans to continue to strengthen the party within the county and the State of Tennessee and to unite all factions “against liberal agendas coming into our homes and schools,” she said. “Our goal is to elect Conservative Republicans.”

To do that, McAlindon said, the party needs to come together “against areas in which we connect like the Healthcare Exchanges, Obamacare and Gun Rights. We need to unite behind areas in which we have commonality and remain a family.”

McAlindon also sees a need to educate the populace in all areas of the county about important issues, help them get to know their public officials and encourage those officials to become more actively involved in the party.

“We, as a party, also need be more supportive of the community,” she added.

That may come about by partnering with non-profit organizations to raise funds, to reach out and help others in need, or even partnering with schools.

“We have a lot of people well educated in the Constitution who could go into the schools on Constitution Day and help teachers educate their students on the Constitution,” she said.

McAlindon and her husband Lance have four children who are all home schooled.
