Revenge-minded Bruins eying state tournament

Brentwood’s boys basketball team gets a shot of redemption Monday night, hosting Wilson Central in the Class AAA sectional round.
The matchup is one Bruins coach Dennis King could not be more excited for following last year’s 60-52 upset by the Wildcats in the same round.
“You don’t get an opportunity to avenge a very painful loss – and it’s right here for us to do,” the coach said. “We disappointed the whole community last year. We hope to atone for that.”
Brentwood has reached the sectional round for three consecutive years and has not yet had a state tournament appearance in school history.
Despite his excitement, King knows Wilson Central will be a tough opponent.
“They’re a dangerous team,” he said. “They are so well coached and have a great player in (Jacob) Williams. He torched us last year for 23.”
The Bruins advanced to the sectionals following back-to-back blowout victories in the Region 6-AAA tournament – 62-43 over McGavock in the semifinals and 56-36 over Hillsboro in the title game.
Wilson Central lost to Dickson County 45-38 in the Region 5-AAA title game.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday on the campus of Brentwood High School.
