Centennial's Miller airlifted from field Friday

Centennial High School junior outfielder Jarvis Miller was airlifted from Forrest High School Friday night after a crushing collision at third base that left him with a broken jaw and a shattered chin.

“It was just a freak thing,” said Centennial head coach Rob Baughman. “Jarvis was going in head first and his chin hit the third baseman’s knee. It was brutal looking.”

Miller endured nearly eight hours of surgery on Sunday to repair the 11 broken fragments, but according to Baughman, the repair was not at the top of Miller’s priority list.

“His first question was, ‘Are my teeth all there?’,” the coach said. “Then he was upset because they had to cut his jersey off. Saturday the doctors told him he could be back in four weeks and Jarvis said, ‘I’ll be ready in two.’

“Typical Jarvis.  He’s just a trooper.”
