10-year-old Spring Hill girl died after extended battle with flu

A 10-year-old Spring Hill girl died today after an extended battle with the flu.

Complications from the virus sent Halle Henderson to Vanderbilt University Medical Center two weeks ago where myocarditis, caused by the flu, sent her into cardiac arrest. Halle, the daughter of Tammy and Rodney Henderson, underwent surgery yesterday to insert a ventricular assist device into her lungs as a first step towards a heart transplant. She died as a result of complications from the procedure.

Halle’s fight garnered national attention. Thousands of people posted words of encouragement on a Facebook page that had been created to provide updates on her condition.

The Spring Hill community came together in prayer and support during this period when the Allendale Elementary student’s case of the flu suddenly became a fight for life in March. Red ribbons popped up in shop windows, on mailboxes and school buses throughout the community of Spring Hill and children and adults wore red as a way to show support for the child and her family.
