Lady Rebels make history with win over Brentwood

Franklin’s Lady Rebel softball team accomplished something they haven’t done since the current players were in elementary school by notching a win over rival Brentwood 4-2. It was the first win by Franklin on the softball field over the Lady Bruins in 10 years.

Brentwood opened strong, scoring twice in the top half of the first inning, but Franklin answered in the bottom of the frame, pushing across a trio of scores. Franklin added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

Katie Moseley got the complete game victory on the mound while sophomore Libby Sugg found her bat, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Sugg is the returning District 11-AAA Most Valuable Player.

The win keeps Franklin locked in a logjam for the second spot in District 11-AAA.  Ravenwood, at 5-0, is the solid leader, but Franklin (2-2), Independence (3-2) and Centennial (3-1) remain in a virtual dead heat at the midpoint of the season.

Franklin is scheduled to visit Centennial on Thursday in an attempt to avenge one of their two losses before hosting the Sonic Invitational this weekend at Fly Park.
