Rebels search for new basketball leader
By Joe Williams, For the Williamson Herald
Franklin High School officials begin searching for a new head boys basketball coach today following the resignation of Jay Johnson on April 22.
Johnson, a Franklin graduate who helped the Rebels to their only state basketball championship in 1989, won nearly 200 games during his 10-year career as a head coach. The Rebels finished 15-13 last season, part of a 56-52 record since intense rezoning over the past four years.
Johnson, who also serves as the voice of Rebel football, is expected to remain at Franklin as an educator.
The procedure for hiring a new coach is one that should be familiar to the Franklin High administration as this is the fourth coaching change in the five major sports in just over a year. The Rebels started the 2013 school year with new coaches in football, girls basketball and baseball, leaving softball coach Marshall Winkler as the dean of head coaches on Hillsboro Road.
