Lady Rebels notch 20th win of season

Senior Beth Stuckey came off the bench and laid down two key bunts to help lead the Franklin High softball team to the season’s 20th win, a 9-1 victory over Nashville Overton Monday afternoon.
It is the first time in nearly two decades the team has reached the 20-victory level in a single season.
Franklin jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, adding four more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth before coasting to the win.
Katie Moseley picked up her 10th win of the season, shutting down a Lady Bobcat team that advanced to substate competition last season. The senior hurler scattered six hits and struck out seven, allowing only one run in the top of the final inning.
She got plenty of support at the plate behind not only Stuckey, but sophomore phenom Libby Suggs, who cranked her eighth solo home run of the season.
“We hit the ball pretty well and played really good defense,” said head coach Marshall Winkler, whose team stands 20-11 on the season with three regular season games to go.
“We’ve great senior leadership and just super chemistry on and off the field.”
The biggest game on the schedule right now is Tuesday’s rain-out make-up at Centennial at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game is expected to be the No. 3 seed in the District 11-AAA tournament next week, with the loser falling to the fourth seed.
Centennial won the first meeting of the year at Franklin.
