MAIN STREET BEAT: Is a deluxe hotel in downtown Franklin a good thing?
By Kerri Bartlett, Assistant Editor
A “deluxe destination hotel,” possibly to be called The Inn at Harpeth Square, could grace the streets of downtown Franklin with more than 100 rooms for nightly rent, and condominium and/or apartment residences atop retail and commercial space. The structure would comprise the majority of a city block from First Avenue to Second Avenue and from East Main Street to Bridge Street, roughly 4.5 acres including a parking garage for occupants of the building.
“My husband and I have been saying that downtown needs a hotel for years. It’s nice for out-of-town guests who are visiting to be close to downtown town Franklin because it has so much to offer.”
"I am very excited about the redeveloping what was old and commercial. I think that it would compliment all of the businesses and create more sustainable opportunities for the downtown business ecosystem.”
“It would be fabulous. Let’s give people a place to stay after partying on Main Street. Also, if the parking garage is not available to all taxpayers, developers should pay for the garage."
“I think it’s a good idea if it’s economically feasible depending on (1) how much public funds are used for the project and (2) if there’s enough residential demand.”
