Brentwood Academy split their doubleheader with Montgomery Bell Academy Friday in the Division II-AA substate round, losing the opener 2-0 and winning the second game 4-1.
Scheduled to be played on the BA campus, the games were moved to Rose Park, home of Belmont University’s team, due to weather.
Scoreless through five innings in the opener, MBA’s Penn Murfee hit a towering two-run home run to left field off BA starting pitcher Austin Jackson for the contest’s only runs.
Jackson went six innings, scattering three hits while striking out four and walking three.
BA mustered little on offense, earning only two hit against Murfee, the Big Red’s starter.
The Eagles’ best scoring chance came in the first inning as they appeared to have runners on the corners with two outs before the third out was rewarded to MBA on an interference call at second base as Kyle Conger broke up a possible double play.
BA scored four runs in the first inning of the second game to even the series.
Will Haynie pitched for the Eagles, striking out eight MBA batters in seven innings.
The Eagles and Big Red play for a spot in the BlueCross Spring Fling Saturday at 10 a.m.
