Independence hires MTSU assistant to lead baseball program

Independence High School announced former Middle Tennessee State University assistant Mike McLaury as their new head baseball coach June 4.

“Coach McLaury gives us the final brick in the building of our overall athletic programs,” said Indy Athletic Director Greg Glass. “With him having both prior high school and college experience, we felt like he puts Independence baseball in the best position to be as successful as we have been in the past.”

A standout pitcher for MTSU in the 1992 and 1993 seasons, McLaury was the first Blue Raider to earn Pitcher of the Year honors in the Ohio Valley Conference.

He coached at his alma mater on two separate occasions, the most recent as pitching coach beginning in 2006.

McLaury replaces Bill Moore who left Independence to take over the program at Brentwood High School. Moore had been Independence’s only baseball coach in school history, starting the program eight seasons ago.
