WMC, BFD emergency teams win Star of Life Award

Williamson Medical Center EMS and the Brentwood Fire Department were jointly awarded the Star of Life award for Region V in Tennessee at a recent ceremony. In addition, Drew Hooker, Paramedic; Tim Blem, EMT-IV; Michael Wallace, CCPM-EMS Operations Manager, all with the Williamson Medical Center EMS team, received individual awards.
 
Allen Lovett, director of the WMC EMS team said all of these professionals are to be commended for a job well done. The awards ceremony, held May 23, closed out Emergency Services Week, celebrated the third week in May each year as designated by the federal Emergency Medical Services for Children Program and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

In addition to the WMC winners, other local recipients of Star of Life awards were: Brian Collins, paramedic/Lt; Ryan Prather, EMT-IV/FF; and Jeremy Giroux EMT-IV/FF from Brentwood Fire and Rescue; Meredith McCoy, communications, Williamson County Department of Emergency Communications; Mike Burton, communications, Brentwood Communications; Sean Smith, EMT-IV/Lt., Franklin Fire Department; and Toby Cooper and Dan Toth from AT&T.
 
Award recipient and EMS Operations Manager Michael Wallace added that there have recently been numerous incidents of survival which can all be attributed to immediate bystander CPR and the evidence-based best practices implemented on a daily basis by the people who serve in the EMS/public safety system in Williamson County. 

“The relentless dedication and focus of these exceptional people makes a difference beyond measure in the life of our community and the people they serve,” Wallace said. “I am privileged to be a part of such a great team.” 

County Mayor Rogers Anderson, made 2013 EMS Week official locally with a declaration that May 19-25 was EMS Week and May 22 was EMS for Children Day in Williamson County as well.

The county mayor, along with County Commission Chair and WMC Board of Trustees member, Jack Walton, presented EMS Director Allen Lovett, EMT-IV Michael Campbell and FTO/Paramedic Joel Reynolds with official signed proclamations.
