Vacation Bible School for Women – a three night experience Reclaiming Hearts

The fifth annual VBS for Women event by Reclaiming Hearts Ministry will run July 14-16 in Liberty Hall at The Factory in Franklin. The theme for this free three-evening event is No Excuses: You are Not the Biggest Loser and will feature former Biggest Loser contestants Hannah Curlee and Amy Parham and a Card Board testimony from women who have attended the conference in years past.
Each evening there will be lessons based on the theme taught by Franklin author and Bible teacher, Denise Hildreth Jones; Worship led by Regi Stone and adult style crafts, skits and motion songs for the young at heart and all illustrating the theme.
“The first lesson is about hurt,” Jones said. “The Biggest Loser [TV show] gets to the heart and the core of the issue – food is just a place to hide pain. We take the principles in the The Biggest Loser – you have to choose to hide out or not to offer excuses.”
The idea for VBS for Women came about when Jones felt the need to reunite with women she shared Bible studies for several years. About 150 women showed up at the inaugural event, “More than I expected,” said Jones, the author of two books – “Reclaiming Your Heart: A Journey Back to Laughing, Loving and Living” and its fiction companion, “Secrets Over Sweet Tea.” “[The event] became a beautiful way to bring different denominations together; to bring different cultures together. I thought it could be a way to minister to our ladies that came to Bible study for several years”
Since there is no charge and is open to any woman with a desire to encounter the heart of God, the event gives women who can’t afford such a conference, an opportunity to attend.
Thanks to a sponsorship from WAY-FM radio, this year Jones said she expects about 1,000 women over the three evenings – every night is its own entity for those who can’t make all three.
“It has grown from a very small thing to a really big thing,” Jones said. “I had no idea it would get this big. I think it is real comforting to see the hunger in women’s hearts.”
