Early prep football fix tomorrow at Ravenwood

If you need an early fix before the official start of the high school football season, Ravenwood High School will be the place to be tomorrow.

The Raptors and new head coach Will Hester will host 15 other teams in a grueling 7-on-7 passing tournament at the north Williamson County campus beginning with pool play at 8:30 a.m.  A single elimination bracket, seeded by pool records, begins at 1:30 p.m.

High school 7-on-7 events are designed for quarterbacks and receivers to work on routes and timing and heavy contact is not allowed.  With no offensive or defensive lines to crowd the quarterbacks, quarterbacks are forced to make decisions and throws in short time window.

In addition to host Ravenwood, Brentwood, Centennial and Page will represent the county against teams considered strong pre-season contenders for district titles and play-off spots.  Siegel, Blackman and Oakland, all top contenders from District 9-AAA in Rutherford County, will compete along with Beech High School from Hendersonville.  The Buccaneers will bring with them the state’s top player, senior Jalen Hurd.  Better known for his running prowess, Hurd’s ability as a receiver is sometimes overlooked.

There is no fee for admission to the event and parking is free.  Contests will be spread over Ravenwood’s stadium field, practice field and lacrosse field.
